  GETTING TO VILLA SOL CULEBRA :     FERRY SERVICE:
FROM THE U.S. TO SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO
The easiest way to reach Culebra is via San Juan, Puerto Rico. The flight from New York to San Juan takes 3 1/2 hours; from Miami to San Juan it's 1 1/2 hours. San Juan International Airport (SJU) is served from the U.S. Mainland by American Airlines, Delta, US Airways, Continental, Northwest, Spirit Air, and United. From the rest of the world, San Juan (SJU) Airport is served by Air Canada Vacations, Canadian Airlines, British Airways, Lufthansa's partner Condor, Copa Airlines, and LACSA-Group Taca.

FROM SAN JUAN TO CULEBRA
There are basically two ways of travelling from the 'Big Island' of Puerto Rico to Culebra. You can either take an airplane or take a ferry boat. Flying in is usually the most hassle free option, and in 30 minutes you can move from San Juan to Culebra. However, taking the boat from Fajardo is less expensive. Culebra has daily flights arriving from the San Juan International Airport (SJU) on Isla Nena Air Service (787-741-1577) and Air Flamenco (787-724-1818), and from San Juan Isla Grande Airport (SIG) on Vieques Air Link (787-722-3736) and Air Flamenco (787-724-6464). A 1 1/2 hour ferry ride is also available from Fajardo, a sea port on the east shore of Puerto Rico. For the taxi drive between San Juan and Fajardo you should allow between two and three hours, depending on traffic.

FROM SAN JUAN TO FAJARDO (LAND)
For passengers arriving at the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in San Juan, taking a taxi is the best way to Fajardo. Taxis are easily available as you exit the airport. Allow 2 hours in normal traffic (3 hours in rush hours) for the taxi drive from San Juan. The typical taxi charge is about $65.		   Passenger Ferry - Every Day

If you happen to miss the ferry at Fajardo, an alternative is to fly from the Fajardo airport. Vieques Air Link and Air Flamenco fly between Fajardo and Culebra. It is a good idea to carry with you the local airlines' phone numbers. (See Main Local Airlines section below.)

This airline has flights to Culebra departing both San Juan Internationl Airport (SJU) and San Juan Isla Grande (SIG). Their airfare from SIG isless than from SJU.

SIG airport is a 15-20 minute taxi drive from SJU airport.

Air Flamenco also has flights between Fajardo and Culebra.
  Chartered flights, timed more at your convenience, are another option. If your group has 5 people or more, the per person cost* could be about the same as in a scheduled flight.

Taxis or the “publicos”, as they are called in Culebra, are normally available during the day hours, but not so readily available in the evening hours. If you were to go to, let’s say a restaurant in town, in the evening hours, you should make prior arrangements with the driver to assure return transportation. For an average $3-5 US per person fare you could go from the villa to town (one way).

Renting a car gives the visitor the flexibility of going to any place at any time of the day or night. A rental car would facilitate your visit to other beaches, go groceries shopping or eat out in the restaurants in town.

If you reserve a rental vehicle, once you get into Culebra the wise thing is to first pick up the rental vehicle and drive it to check-in at the Villa.

For the peak tourist times of the year we suggest you make car rental reservations ahead of time.

If you opt not to rent a car and there is no taxi near the dock or airport when you arrive, call the taxi numbers listed below until you get a live response. Do not rely on leaving a voice mail or expect to be called back, particularly if your cell phone is from the States, as this would be a long distance call for the taxi driver. It can be useful to know that the road in front of the airport is the route for taxis as they go back and forth between town and the popular public beach Flamenco.
